Two fined in Monmouth County animal cruelty cases

Two people cited for separate animal cruelty incidents in Monmouth County earlier this summer were fined in municipal court this morning, according to the local branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Carole L. McCall, 45, of Tinton Falls, was ordered to pay $1,500 in her hometown after being found guilty of two counts of cruelty, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County SPCA.

McCall was cited July 6 after authorities found two emaciated dogs in her care, Amato said. In addition to the fine, she was ordered to pay $900 restitution to the Red Bank Animal Hospital for care of the dogs and barred from owning any pets for two years.

Also on Tuesday, a judge in Shrewsbury ordered a manager with Cherry Hill-based Orkin Pest Control to pay a $1,000 fine, Amato said.

Tom Homka, 49, was cited for cruelty on June 2 after he failed to check on a squirrel trap set at the Pottery Barn for Kids on Broad Street. Two squirrels were caught by the trap and were left unattended for several days, Amato said. Both animals lived.
