NJ man charged with beating cat to death

ABERDEEN - A 21-year-old township man was charged Monday with beating a cat to death, authorities said.

Isaiah C. Lowe of Grove Street in the Cliffwood Beach section was charged with needlessly abusing a living creature and inflicting unnecessary injury to an animal, said Victor "Buddy'' Amato, chief of police for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The cat, Angel, belonged to Lowe's mother, Amato said. The animal was taken last week to Central Jersey Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Shrewsbury with severe head trauma, Amato said. The animal later died of its injuries, according to an investigation report filed by Sgt. Matthew Giuliano of the SPCA.

The charges are disorderly persons offenses and each carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, according to state statutes on animal cruelty.
