Neptune City man fined for beating pit bull

NEPTUNE CITY - An Ocean Township man was fined $1,000 after admitting to animal cruelty charges in court on Wednesday, according to Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Timothy Brown, 22, of Rustic Drive admitted to Municipal Court Judge Mark T. Apostolou that he beat his girlfriend's pit bull with a strap outside the Retro Fitness Center on West Sylvania Avenue around 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 27, 2010, Amato said.

Retro Fitness gym members witnessed Brown beating the dog and called police, Amato added.
