Woman charged with animal cruelty
KEANSBURG - A resident of the town was charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty to four young kittens Thurday evening, according to Victor Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for thr Prevention of Animal Cruelty
Brooke D. Torres, 28, threw four kittens, all around 7 weeks old, outside the previous night because they were infested with fleas, Amato said. The kittens' cries alerted the neighbors, who notified Chief Amato.
Amato found the kittens dehydrated, starved and all suffering from upper respiratory infections. Amato briefly took the kittens to his home to provide basic care, food and water, and cleaning of the eyes, which were filled with discharge from the infections, Amato said. The kittens were then transported by Associated Humane ambulance for further veteranary care.
Amato said Torres was charged with four counts each of abandonment, failure to provide food, water and shelter, and failure to provide veterinary care/sustenance. Her court date is July 16 at Keansburg Municipal Court in front of Judge Michael Puglesi.
