Woman abandoned dog, SPCA charges
HIGHLANDS - An 11-year-old German shepherd mix named Bandit died because its owner Gina
L. Moore, formerly of Shore Drive, abandoned the dog alone, said Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Chief Victor "Buddy'' Amato.
Moore was charged with animal cruelty. She appeared in court Tuesday in front of
Municipal Court Judge Peter Locasio.
Moore, 38, was fined $1,000; cannot own or be in possession of a pet or an animal of any kind for five years; must complete 30 days community service; pay $350 restitution fees to the veterinarian and pay court cost.
On June 10, Monmouth County sheriff officers went to Moore's home because she was being served an eviction notice, Amato said. When the officers arrived at the house, Moore was not there, the dog was left in the house alone, Amato said.
"The dog was laying in feces, and covered with parasites,'' Amato said.
The officers called the SPCA for help.
SPCA Sgt. Matthew Giuliano responded to retrieve the dog. However, he did not bring the dog to the SPCA facility, he took the dog to the Red Bank Animal Hospital because of its condition.
Amato did not say how long the dog was by itself. And because of the dog's deteriorating state, the veterinarian had no choice but to euthanize the dog.
