Neptune man charged with promoting dogfighting

NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP - A township man was arrested Saturday and charged with promoting dogfighting after police learned he was using the Internet to orchestrate fights, authorities reported.

An informant tipped police that Tyquell Washington, 21, of Heck Avenue was posting requests on Facebook for a fight partner for his pit bull, said Victor "Buddy'' Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Washington was being held at the Monmouth County jail in Freehold in lieu of $30,000 bail, Amato said.

Washington's two dogs were confiscated and transported to the county SPCA in Eatontown, he said.

Patrolman Frank Doremus of the Neptune Township police and Sgt. Matthew Guliano of the county SPCA assisted with the arrest, Amato said.
