Woman charged with animal cruelty for not feeding her dog
HIGHLANDS - An undernourished dog plagued by parasites had to be put down recently, police reported today.
Jina L. Moore, 38, of Shore Drive is charged with three counts of animal cruelty for leaving her 12- or 13-year-old dog unfed, in a pile of its own urine and feces, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
The dying animal was discovered by Monmouth County sheriff's deputies who were serving an eviction notice, Amato said.
The dog was covered with parasites inside and out, Amato said. The parasites, and the malnourishment forced veterinarians at Red Bank Animal Hospital to euthanize the dog.
