Witness sought in case of kitten thrown from moving car

FREEHOLD - Authorities are looking for a man they think may have witnessed someone throw a kitten from a moving car Wednesday night in front of Max's Liquors on Park Avenue, causing the animal injuries that eventually killed it.

Victor "Buddy'' Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said a good Samaritan came across a man moving the injured kitten to safety at about 10:30 p.m.

The man, who was white and driving a black SUV truck, said he saw a driver throw the kitten from a moving car and wasn't sure what to do, Amato said. The man left, and the good Samaritan then took the animal to NorthStar VETS, a 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital in Millstone Township, he said.

Amato said the kitten, which had received injuries to its pelvis and spine, did not survive. Amato is investigating the incident, and said he's hoping the SUV driver who witnessed it will have more details. Anyone with more information is asked to call Amato at 732-312-7153.
