Long Branch teen accused of abusing kitten

LONG BRANCH - A city teenager has been charged with animal cruelty, accused of punching and kicking a 4-month-old kitten.

The 16-year-old boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was cited Saturday after a neighbor reported the alleged abuse of the animal outside his home, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The kitten was taken to a local veterinarian and was in stable condition after receiving treatment, Amato said.

The charge is an indictable offense and has been forwarded to the juvenile division of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office for review, Amato said.
