Three in Millstone barred for life from owning pets after pleading guilty to animal cruelty
MILLSTONE - Three Stillhouse Road residents are barred for life from owning a pet after pleading guilty to 26 charges of animal cruelty.
The homeowner, John F. Blocker, 57, his girlfriend, Rose J. Islam, 46, and her sister, Donna L. Erving, 37, each pleaded guilty in front of Municipal Court Judge Thomas F.X. Foley on Tuesday.
Sgt. Matthew Guiliano of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals had removed eight dogs and five cats from the home in the first block of Stillhouse Road on the afternoon of April 23, according to Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief law enforcement officer for the local SPCA.
"These animals were living in wretched conditions, and were flea-infested when we found them. But now, they have all been adopted out to loving homes," Amato said.
Blocker pleaded guilty to six counts of animal cruelty, three counts of failure to provide necessary sustenance and three counts of failure to provide proper shelter for two dogs and one cat, Amato said. He was also fined $500 in addition to the lifetime ban on animal ownership.
Islam was fined 2,250 after she pleaded guilty to nine counts each of animal cruelty, failure to provide necessary sustenance and failure to provide proper shelter and care for five dogs and four cats at the home, according to Amato.
Erving pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty, and one count each of failure to provide necessary sustenance and failure to provide proper shelter, Amato said. She was fined $250 by Judge Foley.
