Wall man fined for mistreatment of two dogs

Frank R. Bongarzone Jr., 46, of Marconi Road pleaded guilty to failing to provide the necessary sustenance for two dogs that were confiscated after being found in dire condition, authorities said.

Victor "Buddy" Amato, police chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said Bongarzone was fined $1,100, money that will be awarded to the SPCA. The 5-year-old "cockapoo" and 9-year-old collie were removed from Bongarzone's home and taken to an animal hospital, Amato said. The animals have since been adopted, he said.

Municipal Court Judge E. Thomas Brennan Jr. banned Bongarzone from owning a pet for five years.

"That means he can't have so much as a gerbil," Amato said.

Bongarzone was issued summonses in February after Amato was called in to investigate at the request of township Patrolman Todd Czech and the Associated Humane Societies. When Amato went to the Marconi Road home, he found both animals in bad condition, he said.
