Rottweiler attacked woman protecting her children
Middletown - A rottweiler attacked a 30 year-old township woman walking by Bassett Furniture on Kanes lane and Route 35 on May 6, while she was blocking the dog from her children; the dog bit her viciously according to Victor "Buddy" Amato, Chief of police for the Monmouth County ASPCA. The woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Officer John Soltysik went to the back of a house where the rottweiler had escaped from and located the dog. According to Chief Amato the dog charged the officer and Soltysik fired a fatal shot at the rottweiler. Amato said it was the suitable choice given the circumstances, "I would have done the same if being charged by a rottweiler that just viciously attacked someone."
The woman was released from the hospital after being treated and the officer was unharmed.
