Holmdel man fined $800 for slamming dog to ground

A Yellowbrook Road man was ordered to pay an $800 fine today after he admitted in court that he slammed a Yorkshire terrier on the ground after it soiled his couch, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, police chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

John C. Tumazos, 53, pleaded guilty to a single count of animal cruelty related to an incident at his home in March, Amato said. At the time, Tumazos was cited with two counts of animal cruelty, but one was thrown out for lack of evidence, Amato said.

In addition to the $800 fine, Tumazos was ordered to pay approximately $400 in veterinarian fees for the dog, which authorities said belonged to Tumazos' estranged wife, Adele Tumazos of West Virginia, who had come to the house to visit and had left for a brief time.
