Woman charged with slitting dog's throat during argument with boyfriend in Union Beach

UNION BEACH - A Pennsylvania woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after allegedly slitting the throat of her boyfriend's Jack Russell terrier during an argument Sunday night.

Michele Milford, 35, of Scranton, is being held at Monmouth County Jail, Freehold Township in lieu of $10,000 following the altercation at about 6 p.m., said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Milford is accused of twice cutting the throat of the dog named Penelope during the argument, Amato said. The dog is being treated at Red Bank Animal Hospital and expected to recover, he said.

Milford is charged with fourth-degree animal cruelty, as well as possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
