Two suspects arrested Friday in connection with the two chihuahuas thrown out of a moving vehicle in Middletown

KEANSBURG - Two suspects were arrested Friday in connection with the two chihuahuas thrown out of a moving vehicle in Middletown.

Around 10 a.m., Kadeesha C. Kelley, 29, and a juvenile, both of Brookside Avenue, were arrested and charged with eight counts of animal cruelty each, Chief Buddy Amato of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said. The charges include abandonment and abuse, Amato said.

In three interviews, Kelley said the dogs had been stolen, but after the fourth interview, she admitted to throwing the two dogs out of a car, Amato said.

Witnesses said they saw two people throw two dogs out of a lime green, four-door, Mitsubishi-type vehicle with tinted windows traveling on Bayside Parkway in Middletown Tuesday night, officials said.

The dogs, one male and one female, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Red Bank Animal Hospital, Red Bank, where they were treated and released to the SPCA.

The owner of the dogs, Kim Passmore, 52, also of Brookside Avenue, is Kelley's mother and the juvenile's grandmother, according to officials. Passmore told Amato she had no knowledge of her daughter's intention to get rid of the dogs.

The motivation behind abandoning them remains unclear, officials said.

Amato apprehended Kelley and the juvenile and took them to Keansburg police headquarters, where they were arrested and released on their own recognizance.

The eight charges Kelley and the juvenile each face hold a maximum prison sentence of six months each and maximum fine of $1,000 each.
