Wall man charged with animal cruelty for alleged neglect of two dogs

A 46-year-old Marconi Road man was charged with animal cruelty after his two dogs had to be taken to the Red Bank Animal Hospital because they had been neglected, said Victor "Buddy" Amato, the police chief of the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A 5-year-old cockapoo and a 9-year-old collie were taken to the animal hospital after Amato investigated at the request of the Wall police Patrolman Todd Czech and the Associated Humane Societies.

When Amato went to the Marconi Road home of Frank R. Bongarzone, he found the collie was emaciated.

"You couldn't tell the head from the tail. It could hardly walk," Amato said of the cockapoo. "The cockapoo will have to be sheared."

Amato said he learned Bongarzone was staying on Shafto Road in Tinton Falls. Amato pulled into the driveway there as Bongarzone was in his car getting ready to pull out.

The two went to Wall police headquarters, and Amato charged Bongarzone with two counts of animal cruelty, he said.

Bongarzone is scheduled to be in Wall Municipal Court on March 3.
