Man arrested for leaving dogs
WARETOWN: Officers from the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals arrested a 26 year-old man for abandoning two dogs he had brought to a pet boarding and grooming store and left them there approximately two months ago, officials said.
SPCA officers arrested Glenn Erlenmuiur, of the Township of Ocean in Ocean County on Tuesday on two charges of abandoning two dogs at the "Purr'n Pooch" pet boarding and grooming store in Wall Township.
"We've been tracking this guy down for at least two months now," said Victor "Buddy" Amato, chief humane law officer for the Monmouth County SPCA. "We finally caught up to him; he was playing musical addresses."
The two dogs, a Pit Bull and a Basenji Mix, have been brought to the SPCA Eatontown-based facility.
When caught, Erlenmuiur had another dog that SPCA officials also confiscated.
Amato said Erlenmuiur also has active bench warrants for over $12,000 for charges of theft by deception, non-support and a failure to appear contempt warrant.
"That's on top of hunting him down for the abandonment charges, which are also criminal in nature " Amato said.
SPCA officers transported Erlenmuiur to Ocean County Jail where he held without bail.
A court date of Oct. 13 has been set.
Amato said Erlenmuiur is facing over $2,000 in fines.
Amato said SPCA officer Matthew Juliano was instrumental in locating Erlenmuiur and making the arrest.
