This week I am going to be talking about a cruelty case involving a dirt bag of the two legged variety, that claimed to love his pet Pit bull so much, he decided to beat it with a pool stick. I will start out by saying tha he tired like most animal abusers try to do, to justify their sickness, is to blame it on the pet. This pit bull that was roughly a year and a half old, had the poor manors to pee on the floor. The sad reason that the dog wet the floor is because the low life owner never walked it. His idea of walking the dog was to let it out on the second floor balcony to do it's business. This was documented and proven by photos that were taken for his court case. When I arrived on the scene, the suspect Mr. Dirt bag claimed the reason the dog was screaming for almost ten minutes straight was because it knocked over a chair and it landed on the dogs tail!. The only tail involved here was the one that Mr. Dirt bag was trying to get over on!. Laying on the pool table he had in his living room was the heavy end of a bridge stick to his pool table accessories. I asked him were the other half of the pool stick was and his reply was that the dog ate the other half of the shaft. I told him that I would like to see the other half of the stick and he told me it was thrown out. After a few minutes of hearing him tell me how much he loved his dog and that it was his best friend, I found the other half of the pool stick that was supposed to have been thrown away. He had it hidden in the kitchen area. I took the stick and put it back together, the stick was broken into many small pieces. After I put the stick back together, I called Mr. I love my pet back over and asked him to show me and the other officer were exactly were the teeth marks that would have been obviously apparent on at least one part of the shaft, if indeed the dog had ever bitten it, even one time. Mr. dirt bag at that point admitted to the fact that the stick was used in a fit of rage on his dog for wetting the floor. After everything was photographed and documented as evidence, tickets were issued and court dates were set. As many defendants in all type's of cases do, this low life failed to appear on his scheduled court date and the Judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest. When he is caught, hopefully by myself, his dog will be seized and he will be the guest of the county until he gets bailed out. This hopefully will have a good ending and the dog will be adopted out to some one who does not play pool with his or her dog. Again many times, animal abuse can be associated with other types of abuse. When some one lets his or her temper get away from them, many times they lash out on the one's they are supposed to love and care about. What ever happens to be the closest to them will end up getting the brunt of the anger. People like this should not have pets and as far as I am concerned, when they feel they have to lash out at something, they should be forced to do it to someone who is capable of lashing back out. When someone is punching and fighting back, most cowards tend to back off of their aggressions. Animals are clueless, when the person they think cares about them, beats them. The sad thing is, they still show loyalty to the abuser, much like an abused Spouse still shows love and affection to an abusive partner. The only difference is, a human understands and can reason for the most part, they will make excused for the partners abusive actions and they will go into a state of denial a lot of the times, to justify what is going on. A pet/amimal does not have this type of fail safe. The pet will just take the beating and try to deal with it the best they know how. They will become a shell of their former self, to the point when someone simply goes to pet them they shy away, this is called hand shy and it is one of the saddest things to see. When a dog that looks to you for affection and protection, shy's away and drops to the floor and in some cases, wets itself out of fear when a human trys to pet it. Unfortunately it is not a option to bring the pet to a head doctor and attempt to fix it, like in a human's case. the animal just is scared for life and most people do not want to adopt a pet that is damaged. I have seen however, dogs at the shelter come around after a few weeks of care and affection. They are not lost causes, the are just the result of two legged lost caused that should have been aborted before birth. If anyone reading this column knows of any animal abuse incidents that you feel should be reported, know that your name if requested would never be given out. The majority of all my investigations come from people who wish to not be named and with out their assistance, we would not be able to prosecute the majority of the abuse cases that come in. If anyone is interested in helping some of these abused animals, or any of the animals at the A.S.P.A. in Eatontown, please feel free to call with any type of donation. Every cent goes to the welfare of the animals. Buddy Amato is a Hazlet business owner, who operates Amato's Karate and Weapons Academy. For more information, call (732) 671-9555.
