Every day I put on a uniform and try and help animals that are in need, as chief of the SPCA Law Enforcement Division here in Monmouth County, I have the privilege of working with some of the most wonderful volunteers and professionals at the Monmouth County SPCA, and it is truly a rewarding experience. Yet, we are all fortunate to live in a country where the safety of residents and especially our children is the first priority of law enforcement. Specifically, I would like to point to the achievements of my old and dear friend, Sheriff Joe Oxley, who has worked hard to make this country a shining symbol in terms of how well a Sheriff's Department can operate, if properly led. Joe Oxley has won national accreditation in several categories for the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, and such accreditations are unique in the law-enforcement field. Previously, no aspect of the Sheriff's Department has been nationally accredited, and very few programs, nationwide, ever receive such distinction. In addition, the sheriff operates IDENT-A-KID, which is geared to protecting children. He also has brought in new ideas and opinions to the Sheriff's Department through his Sheriff's Civilian Advisory Council, inaugurated three years ago. There are politicians who run and try to hide in their offices after they are elected, Joe Oxley is not one of those guys. He is out serving the people of this county every day. He is visible. He is out front and he is an inspirational leader that has stayed connected with the times, this county's residents and advancements in law enforcement. As a husband, father, business owner(away from my work at the SPCA) and as a law-enforcement officer, I truly respect and admire the work that this sheriff has done on behalf of the residents of Monmouth County. During a time when it is hard to figure out who one can trust in government sometimes, Joe Oxley has become the standard by which honest and hard-working lawmakers are measured by, in my opinion.
