Master Tom Cleary's Teaching Philosophy: Teaching children is totally different than adults. You have to make it fun while maintaining their attention span. Many children don't have the patience to learn "involved" techniques, so you teach them "basics" and incorporate an extra move in every now & then.
This what makes Aikido great for kids. Teaching them how to "avoid" an attack by moving their bodies, instead of forcing the issue, (especially when they are overpowered), will build their confidence faster than trying to teach them to stand & fight. Basic moves can be just as devastating to an attacker as advanced moves when performed right. Their strength, speed & performance will come as they grow & practice on their own.
