Sensei Casie's Teaching Philosophy: In my opinion, one of the most important things for a child to know these days is basic self defense. In the real world there are some sick people, and I believe that it is very important for a child to know what to do in a certain situation. When I teach, I try very hard to make it as practical as possible, but let the students have a fun time in the process.
From my years of teaching, as well as learning, I think it is incredibly important to have some fun while being taught something new. Kids don't pick up things as well if they have no motivation to pay attention, and my feeling is that you need to get done what you need to do, but give them something to look foward to. When I was little, I found that I liked to be more active and hands on in learning something than instead of just watching, and I am still that way today. While teaching, I try to teach as I would like to be taught by someone else. Tough, yet enjoyable.
A Bit About Sensei Casie: I started training in the Martial Arts when I was only 5 years old, and I have been doing it ever since. I have learned so many new things, and it has given me a whole new outlook on life. Since I began, I learned how to defend myself, and so much more. Martial Arts isn't just about being able to be more powerful than others; it helps you not only physically, but mentally as well. I have found that it give you more confidence in life and teaches you how to deal with some things that aren't easy. Karate has made me mentally (as well as physically) stronger throughout the ups and downs in my life, and I believe it can do the same for anyone.
